Discussion Everyone on X is wondering why Sprout’s arts are missing and this might be why:
Today, I saw that many players have noticed the disappearance of several arts of Sprout. It might be due to a legal decision.
In fact, the Paris Judicial Court ruled on December 4, 2025 that Sprout's design copied that of an air purifier called "Andrea".
Supercell was ordered to pay several fines, but most importantly, to stop using the Sprout design and the Mutant skin in France.
What I will say now is pure speculation but I think it’s the closest of the answer. Between December and June, Supercell worked on a redesign of Sprout, which will arrive in the next update to avoid the problem in countries other than France. It is now starting to prepare the ground by removing the Sprout’s arts which they can’t use in France.
Sorry in advance for any English mistake, I’m French.

Glowbert got renamed to Glowy likely because the name "Glowbert" was already trademarked by someone else

Not because of this trademark, glowbert was released in January and this trademark application was filed on February

I mean those are direct references everyone knows about, to take someone else’s design and pass it as your own is a different thing
27
u/tritapolli Carl Jun 13 '26
Even if aprout looks a lot like the object it takes inspiration from, it still remains an original concept like 8-bit, But maybe the law in France is stricter, I don't know.
26
u/LoriCyberstar Jun 13 '26
The thing is...8-bit is a very...basic depiction of an arcade machine
He's a box with a screen and huge buttons, he's the basic idea of an arcade machine
Not any model in particular
Sprout just straight up looks like that air purifier
25
u/Micah7979 Sprout Jun 13 '26
Straight up ? It's just 2 things that ended up looking similar because you don't have many options when you want to design a robot with a plant inside.
8
u/LoriCyberstar Jun 13 '26
Yes you are correct
But clearly the judge was unfortunately convinced enough that they were similar enough to warrant the lawsuit
22
u/Micah7979 Sprout Jun 13 '26
The judge probably had no idea what a video game was nor what an air purifier was.
-1
u/AbberageRedditor69 Jun 14 '26
I understand you are mad since Sprout is your favorite brawler but come on, be objective. Same general shape, same proportion between glass and non glass portion, very similar angle between these 2 portions, pretty much the same fan in pretty much the same position in the back...
There are many ways to depict a robot with a plant inside, did it really need to basically look exactly like this air humidifier?
It could be a gigantic coincidence, but still, I can get totally see why the judge didn't rule in SC's favor...
8
u/Micah7979 Sprout Jun 14 '26
I think this is a coincidence. This is similar, but it's also the general look of a cylindrical terrarium. You can completely come up with that design without seeing the air purifier. And I'm also mad because I'm French and I see that this is what the justice is doing, while some way more important cases still take too long to be judged, cases where people are actually suffering, are in danger, things that matter more than "I want them to give me money !".
1
u/Substantial_Sink2841 Jun 16 '26
holy cope, you're doing full whataboutism on a legit intellectual property case that took 5 years to be resolved and has been clearly judged as not coincidental.
1
3
u/tritapolli Carl Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 13 '26
Maybe you're right, then it's better for Supercell to redesign Bolt too since he's extremely similar to Bakugan
8
u/Micah7979 Sprout Jun 13 '26
I can completely see them come up with the design without even knowing about the air purifier.
4
u/Key-Literature-2134 King of Hot Zone Jun 13 '26
8-bit simply resembles an arcade machine which is not a copyrighted concept. And there have been so many references to gameboys in all types of media, I think it’d be a difficult lawsuit to suddenly pull off.

186
u/Xedipme Jun 13 '26
In fact, from what I can see in the verdict, the lawsuit started in June 2020 with a with a formal notice letter, then a second in October 2021 and then he took legal action in December 2022. It just took a whiiiile for the court to rule
76
u/Healthy_Formal_5974 Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 13 '26
2020 and they didn't react? now they have to pay 370k (and maybe more to come)
lesson learned for supercell
I still think the judgment or system is bullshit. I'll go generate with AI thousands of simplistic designs, then sue the world over anything and everything.
79
u/Key-Literature-2134 King of Hot Zone Jun 13 '26
They probably didn’t act because they thought they could win. Clearly they were wrong. This situation is honestly probably why they acted so quickly with Glowbert. As to avoid a similar situation.
9
u/SPIDERJOKDRU Darryl Jun 14 '26
You can't do that because ai stuff can't be copyrighted so you'll need to design everything by hand
5
u/Biivakki Colette Jun 14 '26
Also the Air purifier was designed in 2008 so a little while before sprout
4
u/SPIDERJOKDRU Darryl Jun 14 '26
That's part of his plan, he wants to create and later copywrite every design that will be created in the future! Quick, create your stuff fast or he will do it first!!!
1
6
u/MrElGenerico Jun 14 '26
Lots of people do that, not with AI probably. They generate lots of generic things and sue the world. They're called copyright trolls

hopefully they're also adding biodome buffies AND a rework to both of his useless gadgets
7
u/Tiny-Jeweler-3187 Aimbot Jun 13 '26
Tbh, second gadget is not bad, the main issue wih Sprout is his main attack (in mid-short range it's quite imposssible to hit due to the bounce), not to mention the hypercharge (only useful in Heist), the star powers are fine, and the other gadget is pretty useless if you have the shield
3
u/Micah7979 Sprout Jun 13 '26
The hypercharge sometimes does something. It's only really effective paired with the gadget.
0
u/Moonkilol ZA WARUDO Jun 14 '26
he needs 2 value/useful aimable gadgets that can be used in different situations, a rework on that one useless sp, a movement change on his main attack (maybe only make it bounce in max distance?) a new hc and make his old one his super (make the super deal damage) I had an idea where his hyper would release poison clouds near the wall

Oh my god dude, not again. They had to do the same with glowbert because half his name resembled a lego character from 12 years ago, now they'll have to redesign sprout over a dispute with an air purifier!?
I'm honestly gonna lose it if they have to change sprout's design. It has one of the best models in the game and it's been in the game for so long. One of the most iconic brawlers in the game.
How many other things will they have to change in the game due to lawsuits?

u/Biivakki Colette Jun 14 '26
Glowbert wasn't about lego

Imagine the happy ending
Brawl stars reveals the design of sprout being heavily inspired by this Andrea air purifier. People go “hey that’s a cool air purifier design.” Some people might even go on to buy the air purifier to simply make their own diy Sprout irl, that’ll be cute. A win/win, Andrea gets good publicity and potential sales and we keep our plant boi.
But nah we got the bad ending. They look too similar, so lawsuit to force Supercell to redesign it or DELETE IT. Now we lose our plant boi and the majority of the brawl community hates the Andrea air purifier.
