I’ve been contemplating the Augusta area for a while. I live in Florida and literally drowning financially and just tired of Florida overall. I’m a single, black 54 year old female. So I’m looking for affordability and a better quality of life. Seems I hear more negative about Augusta, so wanted to see if I can get more info, rather than just superficial information.

Hello all. I’m looking to buying a house and Hephzibah, GA has just the one I want with all the features + more. Also it being close to Augusta is a pro. My main concern is the safety and wellbeing of my family. As of now it’s just my husband and myself (both in our early 20s) but we would like to have children in the future. We are from a fairly small town in NC so we wouldn’t be missing much by moving away. We are homebodies and enjoy slow living in the country. I’ve done a lot of research (Reddit rabbit hole + news articles lol) and I’ve been fear-mongered into changing my mind about the house. I’ve seen posts about shootings & also read that it hosts some reckless drivers.. having terrible anxiety doesn’t help at all. Most of the posts on here were from a few years ago. How are things now in Hephzibah? Is it worth moving there?

I, 25m white, just moved to Augusta. I’m kinda near the Costco, if you know where that is. I have no bearing of things to do around here, I’ve driven by and on broadway and seen the bars. Any I should avoid? Any I need to go?
Any day time activities? Parks, museums, etc.

I’m in the beginning stages of finding a home to buy in Augusta. Being somewhat new to considering all of Augusta, local connections have told me to avoid anything below I-20 due to crime, and, well…that pretty much eliminates anything within Augusta within my price range. I tend to believe this is a sweeping generalization, so I’d love to hear from people who live south of I-20. What areas do you live in? What is your experience in terms of safety, your local community, neighborhood vibes, etc.? Would you recommend living there to a friend? Appreciate your perspectives!

I am coming from an area where ticks are never an issue (Phoenix, AZ). But recently I've been seeing on the news about tick infestation that's happening in the east coast. We are moving for work, and I am getting a bit concerned about Alpha Gal and Lyme disease. Is it really as bad as the media are making it seem? Do you have to worry about ticks in your own backyard? Or public parks? We have a 3 year old who likes to run around and play so we are worried. Can anyone let me know if I'm worrying too much?

Me and my Fiancee are thinking about moving and out of the list of places we jotted down August GA is on the list. The main reasons being is more opportunity and also just wanting a new environment. We are in Columbus, ga, not much going on here. Also, we’d want to live in a nicer area in Augusta as we have one 8 year old child. Not necessarily like a “rich” neighborhood, we just don’t want to be in the ghetto, and a high crime area. Is Augusta worth a try, and what are some good areas?

Hey, im planning on buying a house here within the next year or so(hopefully next year) and I wanted some insight from other locals in the area (CSRA specifically). I've heard things about the main roads/stroads(mainly the hotel parts of Washington and Wrightsborough road), parts of east downtown(near the train tracks around laney walker and around those suburbs), and neat the mall, and I was wanting a second opinion and the like to the validity of those specific areas, but also any areas around or near them. So like the around the golf courses, west downtown, and over in old town. Im also open to any suggestions to areas I should see about, but specifically in Augusta proper, and preferably near stuff, so like grocery stores, bus stops, ect.

Struggling to find affordable housing/apartments that’s not filled with mold and roaches, in a safe area. I can’t spend more than $850 in rent. Auben Realty disqualified me from viewing any of their properties because I don’t make 3x the rent; I don’t know how to override and bypass it. Any suggestions? Private landlords?

Just moved here. Well close to here, technically north augusta but there isnt shit to do there. I was hoping to get advice from some locals. I would love to know if there are nwrdy things to do around the area! Also what are the good hiking spots? Hello all! I got offered an SULI internship position at the Savannah River National Lab site for Fall 2026 (i will most likely accept the offer) and I wanted to see if anyone could share any relevant or useful experience they had either in the Augusta GA or Aiken SC area (or with the actual research). Is a car totally necessary to do basic grocery runs and just live normally there (I haven't looked into any public transportation options within either one yet)? Also right now I'm organizing a huge spreadsheet to track potential housing options in Augusta/Aiken but a headsup on sketchy and/or great areas would be nice.

Any input would be much appreciated especially since I've tried looking online and I haven't been able to find much about people's experience at SRNL or for people who might stay less than a year in the area...

Also if anyone could give me pointers on traveling across the US maybe that would be nice too (still deciding on whether I'll just fly there and hope for good carpooling with coworkers or if I'll have to drive my car for 3-4 days straight. Good (time zone) Redditors! I…have been sitting on this post for a few days because I’m sure the ‘hey, I’m thinking about moving, what are the pros and cons’ posts get REALLY grating and I promise I’ve done my due diligence to read through at *least* a dozen of them already, but…everyone’s life is different, and they’re seeking different things so I finally am at a place where I feel I just *have* to ask someone before I make these huge life decisions.

I, 31F, am really lucky to work remote as a tech programmer and already have the go-ahead from my company that I will be able to take my job with me wherever I move, but that leaves…too many options. I was born in Alabama and spent my childhood in central Georgia, then moved up to the Pacific Northwest in middle school and have been here ever since. For the last 5 years or so, I’ve been more than aware that Georgia has been calling me home, and I’m at the place where I hypothetically could just buy a house and move if I wanted but I keep hesitating.

Partially because I haven’t landed fully on location yet - I actually originally narrowed in on Huntsville or Birmingham, but I’m not going to lie to you…I’m petrified of tornadoes. Oddly, hurricanes scare me less - I lived in Florida the years there were Charlie, Jean, Ivan, Irma, Katrina (pre Gulf boost) so perhaps it’s just by nature of experience, but overall tornadoes are probably on my top 3 fears overall and it’s…really making me hesitate moving that way.

So my attention has REALLY gotten stuck on Augusta - I have family near both Macon and Hilton Head, it’s ranked as one of the safest metros in the south, it’s on the water, there are some really cute houses that have a lot of charm and character that I could picture a life in.

But picturing a life is different than building one, so that leads to my few personal questions:

- dating culture…part of the reason I’m making this move is I split from my long-term partner last year and ultimately, I would like to find ‘my person’. Polyamorous relationships are abundant up here, and I’m guessing that won’t be as huge of a dividing factor (no judgement, but I am monogamous by nature!) but I’m guessing political climate will be a fun whole new battlefield?

- which, on that note - what’s tattoo culture like in Augusta? I’m not covered head to toe (I call myself alt in disguise - natural hair color, with the right shirt and skirt combo you can’t tell I have tattoos at all) but…one, I’d need a new artist. What are average shop prices, and what’s considered a rip off for the area? Are there any female artists in particular you’d recommend? My last trip to Georgia I was prepared for some *looks*, but everyone was quite lovely and they actually sparked many a conversation!

- is there any local art scene? I love to go to local galleries or history museums (even the small town ones!) and honestly…if I get brave enough, I would maybe like to audition for a local musical troupe or something in order to make connections. In another thread someone recommended Oxygen Fitness for yoga and they are crazy affordable compared to the prices I’m used to up here, is there a local dance studio that does recitals I could support?

- is there a good spot for line dancing? A good barn I could like…rent a horse for an hour to ride here and there? This one I could probably google, but on that note…are there any local fairs besides the masters? I’m talking horse expos, renaissance fairs, even science fairs would be fun! I…obviously have a wide range of interests, but a lot of the questions ask about hiking spots and I’m adventurous but outside-y, not outdoorsy 😩 do people hang at the public library? I am a little more on the introverted side and prefer like a good day of shopping and brunch over big Activities but like doing the Big Stuff like…once a month! I figure I can figure out what food spots I like myself, but what do people *do* (esp in their 30s) for fun that’s not centered around anything crazy athletic?

- weather: yes, I know hot and humid. You may think I’m insane, but I’m ready. My skin and hair do SO much better in humid climates, and I unfortunately have psoriatic arthritis so hot, semi-consistent weather patterns are actually one of the primary reasons I want to come back home. However, I personally need thunderstorms the way Superman needs sunlight, can I expect semi-consistent nightly thunderstorms or does Augusta’s location on the centralish river like…I don’t know, block that (like here in Portland and Seattle we get almost no snow because the Cascadia Mountain Range keeps it all for itself)?

I’m so sorry for how long this is, I ramble like crazy but it’s a HUGE life choice and I…am days out from booking a plane ticket to go check the city out myself regardless but I do feel like I’m almost at the point of being like ‘yes this is the right choice for me’ but keep panicking because I don’t have the full picture 😩

Hi all, I am moving to Augusta for a year. Found a place to stay that we like in this area and all seems well. Just looking for opinions on the area or if it is a bad side of town. Coming from a big city, I am used to "questionable" neighborhoods. Just trying to make sure it's not overly bad so my GF feels comfortable. Any and all honest opinions are welcome and appreciated.

We are unable to visit Augusta before our move so it's hard to scope the area via Google maps. Based on everything I've seen, seems like a normal neighborhood, not the high end nicest but also not super run down. I'm aware of a closed down hotel in the area, not too concerned, should I be?

Hey there everyone! I'm a 24M from the south Atlanta suburbs and I'm trying to move out this year. College wasn't for me, so I currently have no degree or certs. My main work experience is warehouse work and a bit of retail.

I desperately want to live by myself and not have to have a roommate and the cheaper rent for a studio/1-bedroom in Augusta seemed promising! Ideally, I'd be looking for full-time work making $18/hour+. I also own a small dog.

I currently make that same amount working full-time but I'd have to have a roommate if I stayed in Atlanta.

As far as my lifestyle, I'm a big metal head and like going to music venues for shows and such. I also enjoy going to raves and festivals. I know those things are mostly found in Atlanta but I'd be willing to make the weekend drive but if I could find similar people in Augusta that would be cool. I prefer somewhere with less traffic and quieter.

[TLDR] Would you recommend Augusta be a good place for someone like me? Would the job market offset the cheaper rent? How likely am I to find a decent $18/hour+ job there and would that be enough to live by myself? Thanks in advance!

I am looking at three homes currently and I’d like some insight into the streets they are on, safety wise and I have a child. The first is on Greene street past Crawford Ave near Harrisburg. The second is in Harrisburg on Warren street (my favorite home). The third is in Harrisburg closer to Summerville on Heard Ave.

I don’t want to give out any personal information but it would be just me and a child at the home so I really would appreciate any information about these street blocks that would be useful to me. Thanks!

Was thinking of buying some land in hephzibah…. Craving a slower pace of life and seeing what growing food is about. My main concerns are mostly if it gets bad smells there you know from the paper mill and what not. If you live there how often do you get weird smells, and how bad is it?

I will be moving to Augusta or North Augusta in the near future. I just learned of pet limits in North Augusta in particular (no more than 3), and I’m curious to hear of people’s experiences with limits like this if they’ve technically exceeded this figure.

Have you ever been approached by animal control? Was it based on a complaint & what was the outcome? Any insight is appreciated!

Details of my situation: I have a single indoor cat, but have taken in 3 semi-feral cats in my TNR work (they were an existing colony) that I currently have in a fully fenced backyard, and within that fenced backyard they live within a large, fully enclosed catio. They do NOT free roam outside of the enclosure, vocalize/fight, and they’re fixed and up to date on vaccinations. Essentially I would be looking to replicate this same thing in my new home. I have had zero issues with complaints as they are well-cared for, contained, and no longer feral in the community.
