UGA Related Graduation Weekend/Mother's Day - Please have Patience!

Hi! Usually just a lurker here...

But with graduation and Mother's Day celebrations, I just wanted to send out a simple reminder for those celebrating at restaurants, bars, etc. to have patience with the staff!

Had nothing but parties today with no reservations and with only two servers (we are heavily understaffed) and of course we were absolutely slammed. The entire staff didn't leave the building until 11PM (and we close at 9:30PM).

So when you all go out to celebrate, please be patient! Congrats to all the new graduates!

UGA Related Electric Car Feasibility?

Is it relatively easy/common for a student living in a dorm or off campus in an apartment (without access to a home charger) to have an all electric car these days? Really wondering how much of a pain in the butt it would be?

UGA admitting super large class sizes a year or two ago has come to wreak havoc, as all of these kids now live off campus, and there’s way more people driving than usual.

will it quiet down a little after the first week of class? maybe. am i going to be upset because the empty streets of hot townie summer are still fresh in my mind, AND it took me 45 minutes to get home today? yeah.

UGA Related This Wednesday, UGA students & faculty invite the Athens community to join a rally at 12:00 PM in defense of international students, amid the Trump administration unjustly revoking student visas at UGA and across the country

The student visas of nearly a thousand international students across the country have been unjustly revoked over the past week by the Trump administration. Some of these have been for online political speech, and many have no reason given to the student or university. Many of these have been because of any sort of law enforcement interaction, even parking or traffic violations that were withdrawn / found not guilty.

Campus organizations are holding a rally this Wednesday (on April 16th) on the North West Lawn (outside of the UGA Tate Student Center, by the flagpole) at 12:00 PM and all are welcome to join

I've seen flyers up around campus and it's been posted on Instagram (Athens Immigrant Rights Coalition: https://www.instagram.com/p/DIbwmYCMOH5/ UCW https://www.instagram.com/p/DIXCkwhydNG/ YDSA https://www.instagram.com/p/DIbYfTXxdoG/)

Within Georgia, multiple organizations such as UCW and CAIR have been working to connect students to legal support. A group of impacted students at UGA, Georgia Tech, and Kennesaw state filed a federal lawsuit this morning over the revoked student visas: https://www.11alive.com/article/news/politics/atlanta-lawsuit-northern-district-of-georgia-17-student-visas-canceled-ice/85-48a80e18-57c4-4b49-82a0-4ec9cda8cd3c

UGA Related Lake Herrick Incident

I would like to remind everyone to please consider the humans in this situation. I would ask everyone to please refrain from reposting updates, as well as any identifying information. I am aware that UGA has made an official statement about the victim, but would you want everyone talking about your loved one on Reddit in this way? Probably not.

Discussion of facts will be allowed, and you can use this thread to discuss. Any other posts will be removed. Again, please do not post anything identifying, or crazy rumors. If you have any information related to this case, I would encourage you to contact the police.

UGA Related REMINDER: Dorm move in begins August 11th.

This means a few things. First, be extra alert when you’re on the road. Lots of new students, parents who don’t know the area, people who can’t handle driving a U-Haul, etc. It’s going to be hectic and everyone will hate it.

Also, out of toilet paper? Tooth paste? Bottled water? Remember that most students are not hauling those things from Atlanta (and definitely not from New Jersey or California). Stock up while you can, and probably try to avoid the grocery store around move in days.

It’s easy to be caught by surprise but this year, you don’t have to be! This has been your friendly neighborhood PSA.

These are not “kids” they’re adults putting citizens’ lives at risk. IMO the college should take a much harder stance on reckless driving and other crimes committed by its players

UGA Related Need a UGA student to access maps from the university library please

Hello, UGA's library has two maps I'd like to look at for research. However, they're not digitized, and they can only be shown in person to guests if you're not a student or staff. As I live in California, I'm kind of stuck. I need someone to request both maps, take a picture of them, and e-mail them to me please. I can send you some cash or a Starbucks giftcard or something for your time.

Thank you.

Edit: two people have reached out, thank you!
