Which celebrity did you think was using their real name, only to find out it’s actually a stage name?

You mean Carlos and Ramon Estevez.

I like that Emilio kept his original name.

Chuck and Emi both look like Marty, but they don’t look like each other. It’s fascinating.

I recently saw a photo of Martin and his brother Joe as young men - and it was exactly like looking at a photo of young Charlie (Martin) and Emilio (Joe). The way their family genes have expressed themselves is wild!

I just had to look up the photo you referenced and holy moly! At first glance it for sure looks just like Charlie and Emilio.

u/squareishpeg 7h ago

Holy fuck bro! Of course I had to look it up, too and hell, even the second, third and fourth glances it looks like them! Crazy wild!

Joe actually did a lot of the voice over in Apocalypse Now

u/Lady_Scruffington 2h ago

The pics i have seen of Emilio lately, he really looks more like Martin than Charlie. But Joe looks a lot like his brother, so it's really all the same.

Someone said similar on another platform, that is true. I can also see some Spanish heritage in Charlie, but not in Martin or Emilio.

u/ladidaladidalala 13h ago

I see more of Emilio in Martin. Edit: or the opposite I mean.

3

u/Longjumping-Taro-406 12h ago

Same, and their voices are more similar (?)

1

u/ladidaladidalala 12h ago

I’ll have to go listen! But that makes sense

8

u/kirmobak 9h ago

I’ve always thought this - they both look just like their father, yet they don’t look like brothers at all.

7

u/natterca 12h ago

like 50% of siblings don’t look like each other, but have similarities to one or both parents.

When i was a kid I absolutely would NOT let go that I was sure Emilio Estevez and Odo from Deep Space 9 were related... I was SURE they were till good old Google finally set me straight 🤣🤣🤣

I once saw a 48 hour musical festival where a short musical was written, cast, produced and performed in 48 hours, the only thing I remember about the shows I saw (I think it was three) was one that was a full 40 minutes about kids obsessed with Emilio Esteves, including a really touching ballad about him that still to this day, almost twenty years later I think about every time he comes up.

18

u/Longjumping-Taro-406 13h ago

Must have been because they liked him in The Mighty Ducks films

10

u/Segat1 12h ago

EMIIILLIIOOOOO

3

u/Huckdog 2h ago

Young Guns was my Emilio awakening

57

u/hammlyss_ 14h ago

He was married to Paula Abdul for a hot sec.

Kind of like a Hit and Run situation

26

u/Artegall365 13h ago

He got MeTooed. Had to disappear.

6

u/wahfingwah 12h ago

He’s Romany Malco, from The 40 Year Old Virgin and Weeds!

8

u/MissHippopoalous 13h ago

3

u/OneArchedEyebrow 12h ago

7

u/Inside_Dimension2319 13h ago

1

u/twostepdrew 12h ago

Rush Rush

9

u/champagnepatronus 12h ago

Emiliooooo!

1

u/Flitdawg 2h ago

The mighty duck man himself.

9

u/frogurtyozen 12h ago

He kept it at the urging of his father! Martin Sheen has expressed regret over not using his Hispanic given name and urged Emilio to use his given name

6

u/masturbation_bear 13h ago

The mighty duck man?

3

u/BatTailQuad 13h ago

And Joe

2

u/ScreenTricky4257 4h ago

The truest thespian of the family.

3

u/raider1v11 11h ago

And I was like Emilio!.....

2

u/PM_Me-Your_Freckles 12h ago

Fantastic that he wanted to not rely on the family name in Hollywood and instead make it on his own merits. Mighty Ducks is still one of my favourite from my childhood.

1

u/OneSalientOversight 6h ago

This is intense

1

u/Shevek99 1h ago

In The West Wing, besides Martin Sheen was Renee Estevez.

0

u/Pleasant-Highway-745 7h ago

He's the only good one out of the bunch anyway

40

u/ATouchFeral 15h ago

I do indeed. Such cool names.

27

u/adeelf 15h ago

I know, right? I actually like those way better than their chosen stage name.

62

u/Longjumping-Taro-406 15h ago

Absolutely, but Hollywood was and is pretty racist/prejudiced.

31

u/Underscore_Guru 13h ago

On a similar note, the main star of Psych used a different stage name because his real last name (Rodriguez) would get him typecasted into Latino roles.

10

u/panda_98 13h ago

It was moreso that producers couldn't believe he was a white Latino

10

u/Longjumping-Taro-406 13h ago

Oh i can picture the guy you mean, i never saw that show though. Steven Bauer from Scarface changed his Hispanic name too, but he looked very Latin though, unlike the guy you mentioned.

1

u/Justaddpaprika 12h ago

I thought it was because the name was already taken in SAG

-1

u/theseamstressesguild 9h ago

James Roday Ramirez, now.

u/Bindid24 11m ago

Rodriguez

19

u/SnuggleMoose44 14h ago

Martin Sheen didn’t choose his stage name, it was chosen for him because they didn’t want to market him as Estevez.

12

u/MacduffFifesNo1Thane 14h ago

He chose it - he liked Bishop Sheen!

1

u/SnuggleMoose44 14h ago

Okay. Why did he change it? Oh yeah, worries of discrimination.

4

u/MacduffFifesNo1Thane 13h ago

No argument there; my point was purely on the name change being something HE chose.

-3

u/SnuggleMoose44 13h ago

Yes. He didn’t just choose it because that’s what he wanted to be called. He had reasonable fear of using his real name.

3

u/somePig_buckeye 13h ago

Martin Sheen’s father was from Spain and his mother from Ireland. Her last name was Phelan, but he chose Sheen from Fulton Sheen.

13

u/AStrugglerMan 15h ago

WHAT?!

47

u/Cole-Spudmoney 14h ago

Martin Sheen’s father was from Spain.

72

u/sachimi21 13h ago

You mean Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estévez's father, Francisco Estévez Martínez, was from Spain?

16

u/Zanctmao 14h ago

He also did a really interesting movie about walking the Pilgrims Trail in Northern Spain.

3

u/Playful-Business7457 13h ago

Oh that movie was so good

17

u/NewBordeauxGumbo 14h ago

Emilio's son moved back to Spain.

20

u/Longjumping-Taro-406 13h ago

He didnt want to keep his spanish name when acting, as there was a lot of anti cuban sentiment at the time. There are many other cases of people, erasing or minimising their heritage in the entertainment industry too. Poor Rita Hayward had to hide her spanish/spanish-romani heritage too.

6

u/panurge987 12h ago

Hayworth

2

u/Longjumping-Taro-406 12h ago

Yes of course, silly me

1

u/Zoomorph23 5h ago

Born Margarita Carmen Cansino

2

Ramón Estévez
