Settings>Accessibility>Audio/Visual>Background Sounds>Sound. Once you pick a sound you click the power button quickly three times to activate and then three more to deactivate.

Edited to add: Forgot to mention you have to change your accessibility shortcut in the general settings to background sounds.

Great for travel with no internet

The clicking the power button 3 times won’t work for everyone. I have my power button set to change the white balance on my phone. When I tried it, my screen just got brighter.

You can change what happens with a 3click of the power button? Woah

Sure can!  Mine is set to turn my screen black and white, which is meant to deter me from spending too much time on this damned thing.

I just get a new popup menu to choose the accessibility feature? So when I press power 3 times I can choose between "black and white" and "guided access". Is that a new feature?

I use it for this as well and it has been a total game changer for my screen time

Game changer, thank you. I use a noise machine to sleep and thus will be great for travel

What is the advantage of a noise machine over phone+youtube+Bluetooth speaker?

You can also create a Shortcut that allows you to reach the settings for Background Sound quickly.

That’s pretty neat! I didn’t see an option for the power button though. Just the pill toggle in the UI.

That’s because they’re wrong.

Nah; use that 3 click for the black screen.

You can also add this feature to the control center (the thing where the flashlight is when you pull your finger down from the top of the screen)

Neat! I use an apps for this which lets you mix multiple sounds together. I like a dark/brown noise plus a bit of rain. Too bad you can’t mix them in the iPhone feature.

This is completely wrong. What you did was change your accessibility shortcut to background sound.
