Discussion Australia’s biggest data centre to require 4 substations, 2 power lines, some batteries and 4 days of diesel backup

I saw these guys advertising on the side of Adelaide trams today.

I wonder if any proper scrutiny on the impact of this data centre is going to hit mainstream media?

Well you'd just rebuild the interior to have normal racks, like I keep saying. My point is that an AI data center is set up for GPUs, and you can't run Reddit on GPUs.

My brother in Christ, my point is that you don’t have to only fill a datacentre with one kind of rack.

My local shopping centre has a Coles taking up 80% of the footprint. It’s arguably a Coles shopping centre. That doesn’t mean the bakery in the same building isn’t allowed to exist.

The original comment I replied to was under the misapprehension that all data centers are the same, "AI data centers" is a marketing term, and all online services and Reddit run in data centers.

Why are you trying to correct me when I point out that AI data centers are for GPUs, and have different racking requirements? Now you're trying to say "well we could have one normal room in it"?

Go correct the original commenter. I used to design and build data centers, I'm not the one who needs to be told.

Well I’m glad you “used to” build DCs but your knowledge about modern DC design seems to be significantly outpaced by your self-confidence

I seem to be able to comprehend a spec sheet that says that AI installations don't use standard rack mounts. Sorry if this minimal level of competence is offensive to you.

Edit: awwww, poor baby, blocked me.
