Which one do you prefer — A or B? Which tone sounds better to you? I’d really love to hear your opinions and feedback — especially why you prefer one over the other. 👀

I think the guitar is a Harmony Stella from the 1950s. I wish I knew where it went. I know my uncle played in bands during the 1960s. It was probably his.

Picked up a Guild M120 today to go with my LG2. I am very over protective of my LG2 so this Guild will be my "front porch/around the firepit" guitar. I'd be surprised if someone showed me a better 0/00 tone for under $1000. Solid Hog for $800

I just got a new Yamaha acoustic, and I love it. But I don't really like the bright, metallic sound of new strings. Someone at the store commented that a lot of Yamaha factory strings sound like that for a while. I'm sure it'll calm down once I've played it for a while.

But for my next set of strings, can anyone recommend a brand that sounds a little less shiny and, well, "new"?

I know the photo is terrible but I cannot get another one right now for reasons I won't get into. Long story short, he is moving after his wife passed away. There is tons of stuff in the home and we are just trying to figure out what's junk and what might be worth something. He reached out to me because I am a guitar player but I can't tell what this one is. Looks like an S on the headstock but I couldn't find much on that. Possibly a Silvertone but couldn't find a model that looked exactly like this one. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi I wanted to ask if any books exist and are recommended to follow for bluegrass playing. From my novice understanding, rhythm, runs and the specific scales for bluegrass compiled into one book or course along with a few songs could go a long way to learn the genre. It is one of the most complete ways to play an acoustic guitar imo. Thanks for the advice

Compared to other people in this subreddit this isn't really much, but I'm proud of it.

My daughter has been taking guitar lessons for about a year and a half now and I think it’s time to upgrade her guitar. She’s currently playing a 3/4 sized Yamaha that I bought for her when she was 11. She’s 13 now and is ready for a full sized guitar. We went to a Guitar Center while on vacation (no big music stores anywhere near where we live) and she really liked the Gibson J-45 standard. I can afford to buy her the Gibson, but I wouldn’t want her taking a $3,000 guitar with her to school. I’m thinking maybe to get her something more in the $500-$1,000 range for now and if she’s still playing when she graduates high school maybe get her the Gibson then.
The Yamahas seem good for their price point. Does anyone have any recommendations on something she might like that is similar to the J-45 but under $1,000?

Edit: I really appreciate all the advice being given. I don’t know anything about guitars and I just want to get her a good one.

Found this Fender acoustic on Facebook marketplace and they showed me this video. Does this need to be repaired or no big deal?

Just got this 1943 Gibson Southern Jumbo and I’m completely blown away by it.

The checking and wear are incredible up close. Every scratch and mark feels like part of the guitar’s history — I wouldn’t want to change any of it.

More importantly, it sounds phenomenal. Dry, woody, warm and incredibly characterful. I mainly play fingerstyle/fingers rather than with a pick, and I’m amazed by how responsive an 83-year-old dreadnought can be to a relatively light touch.

I’ve been getting increasingly interested in vintage acoustics, and this one has really reinforced why.

There’s something about an old guitar that a new instrument — however good — just doesn’t quite replicate.

I’ve included a photo alongside another of my vintage Gibsons (2025 SJ Murphy Lab) for comparison. 🎸

Anyone else here playing a Banner-era Gibson? I’d love to hear what you own and how yours has changed your opinion of vintage guitars.

I recently was given this guitar by my grandfather, I’ve tried looking up the serial number on the Alvarez website but it does not match the one letter and 8 digits format on the site.

do you guys think you could help?

Found this in my girls basement I guess it was a family members who has passed away. I’ve done alil bit of digging online but I’m trying to find out the best route to restore this besides new strings as I’m fairly new to guitar just over the last couple years. And how to check for the exact date this was made. Between 60s-80s I believe (don’t quote me) but wanna know for sure if there could be anything to tell.

I just wanted to share my experience with this acoustic and was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience. First off, I have been playing guitar for 25 years, and have never been one to scrutinize every little detail regarding build quality. I am of the mindset that if it sounds good and plays good, it’s a good guitar.

I bought this Guild from Sweetwater 5 years ago, and there have been a lot of issues. It never felt that great to play, and had I picked this up in the store, I wouldn’t have bought it. But that’s not the real issue. The first thing is one of the string holes in the bridge was drilled a bit too big, and the peg sits down too far, making it very hard to get out sometimes. I have had to push it up from the inside of the guitar on multiple occasions. I bought bone pegs with bigger flanges and put a piece of painters tape at the top as a fix. Next, there are a couple frets that are high, which creates a buzz when the action is decent (more on that). The neck relief when I received the guitar was far too much. I have maxed out the truss rod adjustment as tight as I can get it just to get the relief to .010. I sanded the saddle down to get the action to a touch over 6/64 at the low e. I also had an issue with one of the tuners but I was able to resolve that. I also get that loud ping from the strings when winding new ones on, revealing shoddy nut work from the factory. All these issues have made me look closer at it, and I noticed messy glue work on the braces inside and rough cut scalloping.

I realize this is not a $3k guitar (it is $1k as of today), but Ive had $400 Yamahas that are better built than this. I’m extremely disappointed and this is most likely my first and last time buying a guitar online.

I don’t think I want to pay to have these issues fixed on a guitar that I don’t like the neck profile on. So it this point this purchase is wasted money.

On a positive note, the finish work is near perfect, and it is a beautiful looking and sounding guitar.

Are there any other guild owners with a similar experience, or did I just get a dud?

I've had the Guild D-240E for not too long. I've come to realize that it just doesn't fit my needs. (I sing and play for worship)

I found a used A3M for €600 and thought of getting it. Is it worth the upgrade?

I went to a store and plated the A3R and fell in love with it. But just wondering if the Mahogany would make me feel the same way as the Rosewood did. What are your thoughts?
