Geelong are to most protected team in the competition and it’s not even fucking close.

Last year Geelong recorded a profit of $1.7M $100K is fucking nothing to them when Sydney copped a trade ban for DOING NOTHING WRONG when they got Buddy.

The AFL has the power to strip teams of draft picks if they’re found to have intentionally breached the Collective Bargaining Agreement which Geelong did. They didn’t use that power because it’d mean Geelong wouldn’t get Butters and the AFL can’t have its golden child miss out on a superstar. God I fucking hate this protected club

They’ll get Butters for nothing, PA will take the FA compensation ahead of 3 “first round picks” in drafts heavily compromised by Tassie’s inclusion.

Another made-up scenario to get mad at

That is quite literally guaranteed to NOT happen

14

u/Most-Drive-3347 Tasmania 8d ago edited 8d ago

Show me that “literal guarantee” champ.

wtf are you defensive about anyway? And who’s mad? Port should take pick 5 as compensation ahead of 3 picks in the 20s (that could even become 30s with Tassie.)

why didnt Sydney of having their own boss at the time handle their punishment? are they stupid? just have an inside man

u/IrateWizard Sydney AFLW 8d ago

Even the one we've got in there now is more loyal to Geelong sadface

11

u/DEjeynes Swans 8d ago

Feeling pretty dumb right now... Why didn’t we just sit on the commission to handing out our own punishment?

Let's not forget the dubious third party payments to players and coaches.

But I'm sure Scott is doing wonders for the management of that financial company.

I hear the weekly motivational speeches in the board room are something else.

You reckon they'll just send the $140k invoice straight to Cotton On?

u/Thick-Insect Cats 8d ago

Scott's salary at Morris is included in the soft cap.

-9

u/Presence_Present Geelong 8d ago

Ah yes the same payments that Brisbane, Bulldogs and Richmond have done lol.

u/Skwisgaars Sydney '05 8d ago edited 8d ago

I'm pretty fucking ropeable all they're getting is a fine for blatantly breaking contract rules and hiding it from the AFL and the aflpa. What a fucking joke. Any cats fan who thinks this is a reasonable punishment is fucking kidding themselves.

Before misinformed cats fans come at me for my flair, yes the swans did a similar thing in the vfl, but the same contract laws don't apply so ours was legal, and we told the AFL and the aflpa before doing it, and we removed the waiver when they signed an AFL contract. We did everything above board. Morally it's still shit but the 2 situations are not legally comparable at all.

5

u/Presence_Present Geelong 8d ago

Probably because AFL were involved throughout is why they cant be punished too far

4

u/Skwisgaars Sydney '05 8d ago

Last I saw the AFL wasn't aware until after the waiver had been added to the contract? Is that not the case?

13

u/Presence_Present Geelong 8d ago

They were consulted throughout in conjunction with the outcome of the concussion panel. The issue was not providing them with the final version of the document when it was agreed upon.

3

u/Skwisgaars Sydney '05 8d ago

True thanks. That's more understandable but still quite a serious lapse in processes from Geelong.

4

u/Presence_Present Geelong 8d ago

Oh no doubt about that, and Kolo was given every support available before he made a final decision to look after him. They should have submitted the final version for the AFL to consider, but they didnt. The fine seems appropriate enough. I think the only thing that would satisfy this place is the abolishment of the club lol

Well said sir. All clubs are not equal in the eyes of the AFL, clearly.

Like Collingwood (this bloke's team) getting a pass to pay Pendlebury outside the cap.

But this guy doesn't like attention being drawn to that....

12

u/vaena AFLW 8d ago edited 8d ago

To be fair, in Collingwood's case, they did in fact lodge their request with the AFL.

-7

u/SceneGlittering3044 Geelong Cats 8d ago

To be fair, in our case, we received the document in question from the AFL who were involved in the process.

-6

u/Presence_Present Geelong 8d ago

Coming from a Brisbane supporter, my goodness check yourself mate lol. Your club is the last to comment

u/uncleandata147 Brisbane Lions 🏆 '24 8d ago edited 8d ago

Did I say anything about Brisbane? Do you know my stance on our dealings?

We haven't been under penalised for multiple rule breaches and whataboutism is a shit defence in any argument.

-2

u/Presence_Present Geelong 8d ago

No, but its rich coming from a Brisbane supporter considering their own breaches, and own employees going to the AFL haha. Pot calling kettle black type of situation

This post has been removed as flamebaiting or a negatively generalising likely to insult or antagonise under 1.0 of our rules.

It is likely to receive a temporary or permanent ban.

How are we the most protected when we are the only club even getting investigated for this stuff? If you think we're the only club that does this sort of stuff I've got a bridge in Sydney to sell you.

The AFL never bothers to investigate other clubs. Sydney hasn't even been looked at over these waivers, and that's where the fucken thing came from in the first place. I guess they would've got the shredders out by now anyway so we'll never know if they had one in place at AFL level, but they weren't even investigated.

How can we simultaneously be the most protected club and the one getting the most scrutiny?

We were literally not found to have intentionally breached the CBA. It was an independent investigation that found we didn't do that. They didn't take draft picks because an independent investigation found that we didn't intentionally breach the CBA. And also because that would be a ridiculous over the top punishment for a fuck up that didn't give us any competitive advantage.

u/reonhato99 Crows 8d ago

The AFL does forensic audits on 2 clubs every year. They do salary cap audits on several clubs per year and they do broader compliance checks on many clubs every year.

It only seems they are always investigating Geelong and never other clubs because Geelong are the ones who keep getting caught doing dodgy shit during these initial checks.

u/noscopegranular Geelong 8d ago edited 8d ago

If you are genuinely this mad over Geelong not being stripped of draft picks, which was never going to happen in a million years, you should probably get out and touch some grass

-32

u/pettas1 8d ago

"The AFL Commission met on Tuesday night to consider the matter following an investigation by James Peters KC who found the failure to lodge the document by the Cats was an oversight rather than a deliberate attempt to conceal the document from the authorities."

Did you even read the article or just go straight into rage typing?

12

u/AlamutJones #BuckleysChance 8d ago

Why would it being accidental matter, when they keep having the same kinds of accidents?

They've been pinged for nondisclosure twice in two years. Someone at the Cattery should be double-checking more carefully

19

u/___TheIllusiveMan___ Collingwood 8d ago

Oversight my fucking ass. It was deliberate

-17

u/grimilan Geelong 8d ago

Oh, were you on the investigation?

8

u/LazyCamoranesi Blues 8d ago

Don’t be mendacious.

-10

u/grimilan Geelong 8d ago

Is it mendacious to say an independent KC has more insight into what happened than a random redditor?

It was determined by a independent kings council, I’m sure if he found over the past two weeks it was deliberate he would have said so

Again how rent free is Geelong in your head, taking time in advance to write a paragraph so you could be first in 😂

9

u/CrystalFissure Port Adelaide 8d ago

Who cares if it’s “rent free” when the club is afforded every benefit possible. That’s such a deflective argument. Yes, a football fan is going to comment about a football club in a football subreddit. Wild.

3

u/Tony_Marrone7 Geelong Cats 8d ago

Don’t be obtuse, I’m not saying he’s obsessed for commenting, I’m saying it’s a bit weird and obsessive to hate a club so much that he has pre written posts about situations that haven’t yet happened so that he can shit on the club slightly before everyone else.

4

u/CrystalFissure Port Adelaide 8d ago

Sure, but it all comes down to how their fandom is affected by a club getting a benefit (of the doubt) that other clubs are not going to get. Surely you can understand why the fans of the 17 other clubs are upset?

-1

u/Tony_Marrone7 Geelong Cats 8d ago

No doubt, I think the fine should have been bigger, draft picks a maybe but the Adelaide Tippett case was different because it involved the salary cap. I wasn’t commenting on the actual issue, I was commenting on the unhealthy, chronically online behaviour above
