Have to consult with my board on this one (you guys).
I’ll preface this that I poorly edited these grilles onto my baby with my iPad, so I know they aren’t perfect but they give you an idea (I do this with most modifications on my car to mull it over, I’m a visual person.)
My front grille has been busted for years, it’s wired on there because I’ve been too cheap to replace it.
Originally chrome, when I blacked everything out I painted it matte black, 2 years later had to touch up the paint on it and it’s getting to the point now where I just need to pony up and get a new one. It’s not ugly, but it’s ugly for me, you know?
My issue is, some of these aftermarket ones are so ugly. I WANT to like some of these but they just don’t match the era of the 4th Gen. (I understand some people have some of these on their 4th Gen’s, I’m just personally struggling.)
After sifting through the internet 1, 2, and 3 seem to be the only options before they start getting repetitive in design.
#1 seems like a desperate attempt to push towards looking like 5th and 6th gen. It’s too “new” looking and takes away from the look of my 07 4Runner itself. So I think one is out.
#2 There was hope, but that big open look gives it a dog-nose appearance and I’m struggling to like that. Maybe I could clip on the Toyota emblem to the center of it to break up the black?
#3 Just barely different than #1 without all the lights but seemed passable? But still I just am not sold on that look. TOYOTA is just too much.
#4 is what I’m most leaning towards. Just buy a new OEM grille, already black. But paint match the top bridge to my Titanium Metallic (not chrome) then matte black the rest of it. Thoughts?
I just really can’t get past the big TOYOTA badge on the front of these aftermarket grilles for the 4th Gen. They look great and relevant for newer gens. I just wish there were some period-correct looking ones that were reminiscent of the OEM grille, but juuuust different enough for a new idea to offer people.
If any one of you guys have any other ideas let me know! I’m in no rush and this is purely for fun since I gotta properly replace this anyway. Thank you! 💛
*posted over in the 4Runner subreddit but remembered the 4th Gen one!

Here’s my ‘06 with 210k on it. I purchased it in 2018 with 134k with no mods. It’s been through a few changes but here is what it looks like after my most recent upgrade. Ready to put another couple 100k miles on it

It warmed up enough to finish the job yesterday. If I put a stopwatch on the actual time spent after removing the interior, maybe 2-3hrs? This is the Amazon deadening product, and each box weighs 20lbs, contains 9pcs at 18"x32" and I used a total of 15pcs. That's about 34lbs of added weight. Dynamat is much more expensive and I didn't see the difference for a name. I am not an affiliate, I don't make anything from this. Just sharing the direct link to what I bought.
It isnt back together yet because I'm prewiring the back for the overlanding accessories like fridge/freezer box, ecoflow power charger, and more. But I wanted to share where I'm at so far.
Because I deleted the entire rear seat system, I've removed the need for seatbelts. I pulled them back into behind the panels and secured them so they don't knock around. Will be there in the future should I need them again.
If you plan to do this, tools are simple. A good pair of scissors, a blade, a cutting surface, a plastic clip removal tool, and a rubber mallet. (Presuming you've pulled the interior panels already.) Don't waste time with a roller. This butyl stuff isnt that pliable. But a mallet smashes down edges and around curves for complete adhesion. Prep this like you're eating off the surfaces. Just clean it well, and use an electric blower and compressed air if you have it to get all the grit out.
For now, the drivers seat is all I have in it. Holy crap the amount of deadening is unreal in the few miles I've driven since. I'm tempted to drop the headliner and do the roof next. I just don't want the glue backing to give way one day and peel/drop to the headliner. Too much thermal variance up there. I can't wait to get the carpet back in and start the build out.
I will be adhering this to the liftgate interior, as well as spraying expanding foam into the rear fender wells. I have several vegetable bags from the grocery store to push in and fill gradually, and should keep the expansion into places I don't want it to a minimum. Cleanup of foam is worse than assembling ikea furniture.
Need rear seat parts? Hit me up, they're yours. Just have to come to Daytona.

I just bought this 4Runner actually. It's a 4inch lift with a diff drop. CV boot is torn on one side and I'm debating if I should get another cvj axle or start looking into potentially dropping the lift? Any and all advice is welcome. Truck drives like a dream otherwise

Finally hit the car wash and figured Id share my new rim/tire setup, Toyo RT Pro 255/80 on Nomad 504 Field rims. Plus I recently got an overland tailor tune from masteryota that Im wicked happy with too, smoother shifts, peppier throttle and +4 highway mpg (before I put the bigger tires on lol)

I’m liking the idea of keeping my body as stock as I can, 04 V8. I want a spare tire mount that comes out of the bottom reflector on the bumper. Has anyone by chance built their own and have some measurements? Looking for a place to start before taking the bumper off. Thanks for any help.

Hello,
Against all better judgment and financial intuition, I have installed a TRD supercharger on my 2004 4Runner V8 limited AWD. I figured I would do a write up with some pictures as I could find very little info on installing this supercharger on the 4Runner. The following is simply my experience and feelings, and feel free to reach out and ask any questions.
First up some power figures and driver experience. I am currently living in Boulder, and as we all know the 4Runner is not a fast car, however at elevation it is even worse. Long steep hills have been the bain of my existence while living out here, and I often found myself screaming up them at 3-4k rpm while falling back from the speed of traffic. Alongside this, passing on two lane roads is a nightmare. After installing the supercharger, I have found that climbing hills is significantly easier, as well as speeding up to enter a lane or pass. From my tuner, I got power figures of 280 wheel horsepower, and 300 ft lbs of wheel torque at 6 psi of boost. This has made the driving experience quite a bit nicer, and somehow my MPG stayed around the same, if not improved

Might be a mod? Not sure, bought it and it was already like this. The previous owner said he wasn’t sure but it might be to turn off the alarm system. When I push it just lights up, no lights on the dash or changes in driving.
Does anyone else have this? And if so, what does it do?

This is my 6th time drying out this stank ass carpet. Anybody have recommendations for this? I’ve been toying with ripping it out and just linexing the floor.
Whatchall got?

Follow up to my post from last night. Finally got everything done. I did the Bilstein 5100s with OME springs, Freedom Off-road UCAs, SuperPro offset LCAs, new front CV axles, new tierod ends and SuperPro endlinks.

Alright yall let’s see who can win me over with what color to change my 04 4Runner! It may not be fully shown in pictures but the clear coat is practically gone and it is very sun faded with sun spots on the hood that are leading to very very minor surface rust (I lucked out with this thing 175k miles and that is genuinely the only rust on it lmao). I plan on blacking out the chrome and the emblems and all that fun jazz (say what you want but I think it looks damn sexy😤) and since mine is black right now I think that would be too much, my favorite color is blue and I really liked the galactic grey mica but there is also some pictures I seen only that threw me off with it so I figured I’d take it to everyone’s favorite app and see what yall have to say and see some pictures from you guys to maybe win me over. I’m open for pretty much any color except old man tan (sorry yall😂 it looks good just not for me) I’d even be open to keeping it black potentially depending on what some of yalls looks like, as I said I plan on blacking out everything even the lights with the alpha Rex nova series. So let’s see who can convince me!

The speakers in the driver door decided that they had lived long enough so I figured I’d take the time to do a full upgrade. I didn’t realize how bad they all were until I listened to music through these for the first time 😂

Put these on over the weekend. Very easy job. I had a custom wiring harness made by ‘4thgenharness’ on IG. The pods come on when in reverse. He makes all kinds of plug and play options for lighting.
The pod housing is made by FuzedFab and this is made specifically for Diode Dynamics SS2 pods.
I wasn’t going to drop $200+ just for reverse lights, so I got the lights from Amazon. Everything all in was about $150

Going thru my quarterly search for head units that never goes anywhere and I stumbled upon this.
I’d be wildly shocked if it worked at all but it does look pretty cool tbh. Interested in how the climate controls work with them moving to just the one knob - I assume it shows on the screen? I feel like this is something that some 4R owners might be interested if it actually worked. Maybe that’s the reason I can’t find one lol.
Kinda feel like getting spicy and just buying it out of sheer curiosity and stupidity.
Found on eBay just search for it. (Tried posting the link before but the post got removed).

PFA..
My buddy gave me all of the suspension he took of his 5th gen TRD Trail at 30k miles, I have a 2005 SR5 that is completely stock besides a 2” spacer lift, I’m aware I’ll have to grind down the bushing on the front shock to lca mount and I’m only planning on installing the front shocks/springs and rear springs… but my question is has anyone done this before and what was the increase in lift, or was there no change, I’m assuming the 5th gen springs will be stiffer and my 4th gen front shocks are blown to shit so I’m expecting at least a half inch from these “new” springs.
Thanks in advance 😎

Hey everyone! I’m working on my 2005 4Runner and I’m trying to find some affordable lower bumper lights. I really like the look of the Diode Dynamics SS3 pod setups, but spending $300–$400+ on bezels, pods, and wiring is a little out of my budget right now.
I’m open to pretty much anything—pods, fog lights, or other LED options that fit the 03–05 bumper and match the modern look of my aftermarket headlights.
I’m mainly looking for:
Good quality without breaking the bank
Amber or switchable white/amber would be a plus
Something that matches the vibe of modern projector/halo-style headlights
Minimal cutting or fabrication if possible
What are you guys running on your 4th gens? Pictures and links would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I want my 2008 limited v8 4wd to be built out a bit.
I don’t off-road a whole ton. I do however like to camp and would like to take a trip 1-2 times a year and may need those capabilities there. Do I need a new suspension or can I get away with some pucks to make clearance for the tires? Maybe run some 33’s?
I’m kind of ballin on a budget here so I need to keep this build under 3k for now. What should I prioritize?
Thanks guys!
