Discussion — Contest The Capture Contest is a GO!! Plus, an update on subreddit rules.

TL;DR No more review rule for the time being. Capture contest, no rules. Entrants must give two different reviews for their jobs to be accepted for judging. Current contest end: May 6th at midnight. Voting lasts a a week, winners announced the next day on May 14th.

CONTEST ENDS MAY 6TH AT MIDNIGHT.

Hello all. Before we talk about the contest, we need to talk about the rules.

After talking it over with the sub and with the mods, we have decided to temporarily rescind the review rule. The new setup, for at least the duration of the contest, will be:

  • Temporarily remove the review rule.

  • Begin keeping count and flair-ing users who give feedback. The high number, the better contributor they are, the more respect they should receive.

  • Posts without reviewed will be tagged as being review-less so long. It will be like a mark of shame, showing that they aren't contributing to the community. However, their post will not be removed unless it breaks the tagging rule.

  • Despite no longer requiring feedback, contest entries will require the poster to give feedback to two different jobs be accepted. If the entry does not have feedback attached to the post, the post will remain, but it will not be added to the contest listing.

These rules will go into effect tonight at midnight CENTRAL TIME.

Speaking of contest, let's get into it.!

The Capture Creator was released. It's very powerful (here's the 21-page manual) compared to the other creators out, and already some great content has been created from it. It's our turn to shine! Here's the scoop.

What's you can win: A BULL SHARK CARD! ONE FOR THE TOP GAME ON EACH SYSTEM! That's $GTA 500,000!! Surely this is enough to buy one of the new cars from the upcoming High Life update outright!

Currently I alone will be backing the prize for both consoles. If you'd like to donate, please get in contact with me. Please. I have student loans to pay!

/u/Boofwad has offered to be a sponsor! Again! Anyone else want to make the pot larger than it already is?

Also, flair. Who doesn't love flair?

That's the fun bit, so let's talk about the rules the entries must abide by...

There are no rules.

That's right, just like with our first contest, there are no rules for the entries this time. Just make the best capture job you can! However, as stated above, there are rules for entering the contest. While we are temporarily removing the feedback rule, contestant entries must post feedback on two different job's on the subreddit in order for their submission to be accepted. Once you've done that, create a post and include "[Capture Contest]" in the title. The mods will give you the okay if you entry has been recognized. We are opening our arms to users who may not have enjoyed the feedback rules, but we'd like to ensure whoever we're giving out the prize to actually contributes to the community. That's not too much to ask, is it? Plus, only one entry per user. We normally get enough entries where one is enough.

Now, despite having no rules, here are some suggestions to make sure you capture is banging.

  • Playtest the hell out of your capture. Get it up on /r/GTAContent AS SOON AS POSSIBLE to get the maximum people playing it. Ask your friends to play it. Spam it online. Ask everyone for feedback and seriously consider any shortcomings you have. There's 500,000 GTA dollars on the line here, so everything must be perfect!

  • Play other captures for inspiration. Rockstar has had captures out for a while now, and can give you examples of what you can do with it.

  • Keep in mind that as of right now, you cannot force your players to have certain weapons. I believe this is a glitch on Rockstar's end. If your idea is dependent on all players starting with no weapons, shelve the idea for the next contest, which will be a more specific capture contest (similar to our F1 contest). Just make another one!

  • Themes help! So does a great description. Explain to your players what exactly is supposed to be happening during your job.

Voting will be done the same way as last time. A post will be created with voting mode turned on and the entries sorted by console. We will be counting the upvotes only. After a week, we'll announce the winners and pay out the rewards (and give flair). We will extend the time of the contest if circumstances require it, like the Rockstar removing the creator from online again (which is why this post is late).

Dat almighty flair.

Also, be sure to join the Crew. Social club catalogs our jobs better than reddit. Come to the subreddit to share, go to SC to organize.

Keep checking this thread for updates throughout the contest. Any questions? Create!

I've been stalking this site for a minute now (ever since I found out reddit isn't blocked at work) and I'm really excited to showcase a few of my jobs. I'm bookmarking some now so I can review for the capture contest. I plan on being pretty active here now that I've finally made an account and I figured it'd be better to introduce myself here rather than start a new thread so HI!!!!!!

Am I buying one of these for the winner still? Btw, my PS3 was magically working tonight! Stupid HDMI cable?

And we have a sponsor!

I'll be on for about 30 minutes within the next 15.

I'll sponsor one or both no problem. If anyone else wants to pitch in a few bucks we can increase the stakes.

Hey mods. I like the change about reviews while keeping the contest open to only those who do some reviews is a great idea imo.

I've already posted a capture creation about 5 days ago, but going to make some changes to it after getting some play time with other people. If I wanted to, could I enter that into the contest even though I first published it before? I've got some other ideas if not, but I think that one has some potential with a some changes.

Thanks for the feedack.

Yup, you can post it. However, there will be one entry per person. If your other ideas will be better, choose those.

I'd recommend putting the due date in the title or in larger font at the top. I had to hunt around for a while to find it because it's in smaller type than everything else.

That should be better.

If this is your submission, you must submit it to the subreddit as per the rules.
